Rock forms in architecture

An outdoor staircase between sculpted rock walls and a rock column beneath a modern overhang. These photographs show the built work and its construction.

Form & craftsmanship

Layered rock relief
Deep fissures alternate with finer grooves and planes. These variations in depth give the column and stair walls their natural rock character.
Finishing by hand
The construction photograph shows the column surface being worked by hand. This close attention refines small transitions and details.
Rock and architecture
Irregular rock forms meet straight façades, floor edges and steps. The contrast makes the rockwork part of the architecture.

De Tuin van God

Rock landscapes, cave interiors and lifelike tree structures

An immersive environment of sculpted rocks, trees and framed views. The reconstruction of the tomb of Jesus is part of this project. These photographs show both the result and the craftsmanship during construction.

Form & craftsmanship

Hand-shaped relief
The construction photographs show tools being used to work grooves, fissures and stone-like planes into the surface, creating variations in depth and texture.
Different natural textures
Layered rock walls, tree bark and stalactite formations each have a distinct rhythm and relief. This variety gives each setting its character.
A continuous environment
Rock forms extend around openings, stairs and framed views. Planting and light reinforce the depth and connect the individual elements.
